Outlier Pants 02/28/2010
A big thanks to Tyler at Outlier Clothing. The pants showed up and I tried them on and they are amazing! I spent a good hour just moving around in them. It's hard to imagine good looking clothes that make you say "These would be great to ride in." but they have done it. He sent one pair of the 4 Seasons pants and one of the winter and I can't wait to get out on the road in them. Wheels are turning! Chirp, Hillary Oh my me! 01/26/2010
Thank you Jeff! The tires showed up! Nobody pinch me just yet. Jeff came through like a champ and a half with not just tires but also tubes and a pair of socks! And a bunch of other goodies to keep my mind reeling with possibilities. Also, thank you to CSRWire.com for promoting us. And also Indigenous Clothing for spreading the word and offering up clothing! Geez! Today was an awesome day and I'm super thankful. It's amazing how much support we've found. I don't know what to say besides thank you. Thank You. Chirp, Hillary New Promo 01/23/2010
The new promo is up! Yeah! it didn't take that long but it seemed like forever since we shot it. With the holidays and everything else going on the memory of the actual two days of filming seem like a dream. In amazing and good and fantastic news I got some rough numbers back for the number of eyes seeing what we've made. These numbers aren't the whole story but...Zak (I always spell his name without the "c") is hosting the video on his Vimeo.cmo page and those views are represented by the #'s in bold at the top. Th other #'s at the bottom are a few other sites that have the video up and the #'s represent views from that page. I'm not sure why so many fixie blogs are into it but I don't really care. Over 6,000 views by the 22nd and it only hit the webways on the 19th! Really exciting! Speaking of really exciting, 3 big things in no particular order. 1. Jeff Clarkson from Schwalbe has come through as promised and sent a couple sets of tires! It may not sound like a lot but we couldn't be more thrilled. Thank you Jeff! The Ultremo DD's will be proudly rolled on. 2. More excitement! Tyler Clemens from Outlier has agreed to send us send us some clothing! Check out their site by going to our "People We Love" page or follow this link http://outlier.ccweeblylink_new_window They have some truly amazing stuff and it's obvious that they have put tons of thought into how to make their clothes not only very functional for cyclists, but also to have a timeless and classy look for any occasion. 3. And, BUM BUM BUM! Gianmarco Cilli has gone and done the impossible. He got us a bike from Wilier! It's only a frame for now but a 2008 Mortirolo is nothing to scoff at. It's like getting handed a Ferrari! And we are positive that with a little effort we can get the rest of the stuff we need to be riding in no time and make it all happen. If you're reading this and know someone with an old group set or handlebars or anything at all let them know about what we're doing! In the mean time go to http://wilier-usa.comweeblylink_new_window and thank them on our behalf for this While you're checking stuff out, please stop by http://withinreachmovie.comweeblylink_new_window and let them know what you think. I think they are awesome and they've been really helpful to us. I'm still waiting for American Classic (http://amclassic.comweeblylink_new_window) to get back to us about wheels but I think they are probably glued to the monitor watching the promo over and over. It's like "the samizdat"! from Infinite Jest (R.I.P DFW). Okay, enough. Thank you to Emerson, Zak, Justin, Brent, Sara, Allyson, Foxen etc etc. Chirp, Hillary PS check out Justin Donais' Doc Called GlastonBury Kids at http://glastonburykids.comweeblylink_new_window It's really well made and really engaging. Yeah Justin! Up and at 'em! 01/10/2010
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3404057weeblylink_new_window I got up early and then proceeded to think of every excuse in the book to not go out and ride. I eventually left the house about 10:30am to ride up to my buddy Dan's house since he moved up into Topanga Canyon around xmas and I haven't been up there yet. I decided that since I've already ridden up Topanga Canyon a few times I would do something different and take Old Topanga Canyon which is why if you look at the map of the ride it looks like a sperm. I won't bore you too much detail and just let you look at the pretty pictures. I would like to say that there were more people out riding today than I have ever seen in my life. Maybe it's people with new new years resolutions. Maybe it's people getting ready for a new season of racing. Whatever it is, it's nice. I wave to everyone I see. Sometimes they wave back. I do want to say that coming down Old Topanga Canyon toward Mullholland I was doing 43 mph and feeling like a badass and then a guy came from behind me and passed me like I was standing still. He also passed the car that was in front of me... really riding sort of again... 01/08/2010
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3400734 weeblylink_new_window Yeah! It happens to be like that! So the story goes like this - I had to work Sunday this week but since no one is approving overtime "in this economy" I got today off and decided it was high time I A) got a new phone and B) road down to Palos Verdes/Torrance Beach again. It was another flawless January day here in LA and the ride was perfectly uneventful. Everything went according to plan except that my camera ran out of memory because I still have xxx-mess photos on there. OOPS! So I'll share those too. It wasn't the most interesting day route-wise but it was great none the less. More tomorrow??? Long time no ride 12/29/2009
Happy holidays to one and all! Not that it matters but I spent my xxx-mess up in Northern Indiana and the sun never came out and it snowed almost every day and it was quite a nice change from SoCal. I am glad to be back though. I've ridden more in the last 2 days than in the previous 10 combined. All things doc-wise are good. Our schedule got pushed back for various reasons which is bad but it gives us a chance to take a deep breath and get even readier. Emerson took some iPhone photos when we were out filming for the new promo and then he touched them up as only Emerson can. I hope you like them. The promo will be finished and up ASAP. The end. Hope you all enjoy what's coming up in 2010! Yeehaw! Chirp, Hillary The title is a trick. There is nothing regarding anything to do with the band the Pixies in this post except for this explanation. Dan and I met at Peet's on 14th and Montana where we discussed everything under the sun. Then we drove his work truck up to SFV (San Fernando Valley for you non-Socalians) and we rode al the way back. First the pudding, then the proof. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3355123weeblylink_new_window I left off the bit where I rode to Santa Monica to meet Dan so add that on if you like but you get the idea. So there you have it. The first real ride I've done in a couple weeks. Did I mention the bank sign said it was 34 degrees this morning when I left? Did I mention I love riding my bike? Chirp, hillary A new time frame? 12/03/2009
Not trying to jump the gun on any wild and crazy news but it's been a few minutes since I posted anything and the holidays are behind us now so it may be safe to let the cat peek an eye out of the bag. "The News" is that the doc may be getting pushed back by a few weeks due to prior commitments (aka work that pays). It's not horribly complicated but we will have to shift everything which means redoing most of the work we've already put in. In news that is more awesomer, the footage will be arriving to the sweet hands of Zak Mctee tomorrow and so the editing will begin pretty soon and then we will have it up on the site and everyone can enjoy! Chirp, Hillary PS Them Crooked Vultures is amazing. Josh Homme is a genius. Filming - Day 2 11/23/2009
Unbelievable! I don't know where to start with the thank you's. Allyson at Foxen was perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better host. Going in not knowing what to expect I can safely say she was perfect. Especially considering it was her first time giving a tour on camera or giving a tour at all. We really got the royal treatment and could not appreciate it more. The entire staff was amazing and accommodating and everything just went really really well. Foxen Vineyard was just flat out beautiful in every respect. Emerson...what can I say? None of this would have happened without Em. I hope he's proud of himself. Brent is a professional camera man. He know how to set up shots to make them look the best and even when he could have been belly up to the bar getting free wine he was shooting b-roll. He's just flat out amazing. Justin is a nut. I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to get up at 6 in the morning to come with us let alone letting us use their camera and equipment and actually pitching in and helping out. He even hopped in the back of the Matrix and took over camera duties to give Brent a break! Sara, my dear sweet tortured wife. I promised her a day of wine tasting. Though she did get to taste some very excellent wines, she also got a lot more than she bargained for. She handled it all with poise and grace as usual and tolerated me and my version of "a day at a winery". Thank you all. Chirp, hillary First day of filming 11/22/2009
I had a plan to do like 40+ miles ranging all over from the beach to downtown to Griffith Park to Pasadena but what happened was that everyone (including me) anticipated the sooooper early day today and decided to take it easy. I am glad we did. Instead of killing myself trying to get somewhere crazy before the sun went down after we shot in the canals, we ended up driving around the marina being a little more spontaneous. It ended up being really pleasant and it pumped me up to know we could trash Plan A and within 5 minutes be shooting a Plan B completely off schedule and still get good usable footage. Besides a huge thank you to Brent and Emerson, I want to give a virtual high five to Joe (last name Ohio?) that I met on the way to the beach who rode with me and talked and was generally just awesome and nice. Then there was Bill on the way home. I met him at the end of the bike path in Culver city. I had good conversations with both of them and they promised to check out the site. You'd be amazed how much you have in common with people besides your preferred mode of transportation and all you have to do is smile and say hello to find out. What a great day! Time to get ready for Foxen. If it's half as good as yesterday it's gonna be amazing! Chirp, hillary |
